“Grow A Healthier Pizza” inspires Victory for the California Label GMOs Ballot Initiative November 6

“GROW A HEALTHY PIZZA” IS INTENDED TO BE A WORKSHOP AND LESSON PLAN FOR SCHOOLS

“Grow a Healthy Pizza” was launched at the Hamilton HIgh School Medical Fair April 25, 2012. It was one of many themes. This Plant Your Dream Blog was inspired by an invitation to present a workshop at The National Heirloom Seed Expo, September 11,12,13 in Santa Rosa, California. This expo will be an historic moment leading up to an intended victory at the polls November 6, 2012 for the California Label GMOs Initiative. I want to do a caravan from San Diego to Santa Rosa, California before the Expo, teaching about GMOs and planting seeds along the way to inspire the victory. I’m seeking funding from sponsors for this caravan and the teaching of this workshop.–Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener, May 6, 2012.

THE “GROW A HEALTHIER PIZZA” WORKSHOP

In the “Grow a Healthier Pizza” Workshop, you will plant your Dream. Legend says Prophet Noah may have put ancient KAMUT® khorasan grains on the Ark for these challenging times. Ancient wheat become our teacher as we grow it and learn to turn it into a healthier pizza. In this workshop you will work with our harvest of Baker Creek Non GMO Tomatoes that were planted with the intent of growing our own San Marzano pizza topping. We will look at the power in heirloom seeds as sacred seeds to plant our intentions. Many more people want to grow food now; this is a trend. Please use heirloom seeds, Non GMO, to ensure our future. “Grow a Healthier Pizza!” Looks what Congress had in mind when it said that “Pizza is a vegetable! in Fall 2011. We can look at the role we can each play to influence Congress and the White House through growing some of our own food and being part of a “Wellness Spring.”

We will look at the next steps we can take to win the Right to Know Ballot Initiative through teaching others about Labeling GMOs at the CA ballot box November 6, 2012. We will look at the Pros and Cons of GMO agriculture and the trend toward Urban Agriculture as a way to free us from our current personal and national Food Emergency.

What does “Grow a Healthier Pizza” have to do with Inspiring Victory for the California Label GMOs Ballot Initiative?

“Grow a Healthier Pizza” is a hands-on experience. We learn the state of wheat today. We learn about tomatoes, dairy products, fresh vegetables and meat choices. We grind ancient KAMUT® khorasan grains and see whole grains turn to flour. We taste Organic ingredients. We learn about non organic ingredients on our supermarket shelf now that may contain what are called Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) that are made in labs and not a farm. We learn about other chemicals and GMOs- that somehow got in our food supply without anyone asking us if we wanted them there; these ingredients may be effecting our stamina and endurance from youth to old age. Planting whole, pure, organic wheat and non GMO tomatoes is part of the workshop. As the seeds grow, so grow the dreams we plant. I travel with one central pot and a silver box that I say contains the deepest dreams of humanity. My message is “Plant Your Dream.” Gardening, even in one pot with intention, helps us get our beat back with nature. One of the intentions being planted in this pot is to for a real national Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on Facebook about GMOs. I see students entering into debate, learning all sides of the GMO question, and stimulating further the national conversation. This dialogue is projected for a science classroom and will begin this fall. You can keep up with the progress of this conversation on the Plant Your Dream Blog.

“Grow a Healthier Pizza”
is looking to ourselves more than Congress or the White House
to free us from our current personal Food Emergency.

Scene at the Registrar of Voters, May 2, 2012. 275,000 signatures were turned in, near 1,000,000 statewide.

On May 2, 2012, near 1,000,000 people used the California Initiative process to say “Label GMOs.” A grassroots movement was born. We, in America, want the Right to Know what we are eating, the same right more than 40 other nations give to their people. America will regenerate beginning with our youth learning all sides of the GMO question and tasting healthy ingredients so they can choose their future. This moment is about the older generation saying to our youth, I give you what you need. Take your dreams “out of the box.” Plant Your Dream! This dream is happening now. How fast can a dream grow? As Fast as a Blade of Grass…with a few Baker Creek San Marzano Non GMO Label tomatoes topping it off! –Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener, May 5, 2012.

GROW A HEALTHIER PIZZA!” WORKSHOP @ THE NATIONAL HEIRLOOM EXPO, SEPTEMBER 11,12, 13

I am setting out in 2012 to inspire thousands of new gardeners. I set this intention when I spoke at Organic Listening Day at the USDA in Washington September 20, 2011, and volunteered to be the Enchanted Gardener for the People’s Garden Initiative. The beginning: We can each grow some of our own food in containers and get our beat back with nature. I travel with a silver box that contains the deepest dreams of humanity, and a pot where you are invited to Plant Your Dream. I hand out seeds to others as well and encourage their planting. We have reached a tipping point of consumer initiative thanks to so many divergent voices coming together. A literal grassroots movement of gardeners will inspire the White House, Congress, and its Federal agencies to come to terms with Real Food Safety; this includes GMO proliferation. Our Food Emergency is my pressing issue of the 2012 campaign. As a consumer movement, the Right to Know Initiative reached near 1,000,000 signers in early May to get on the California Ballot. Now we are taking the next step at the ballot box this November. Washington is in the farm bed with Biotech Agriculture. Thousands more small gardeners are needed, and a new generation of organic farmers. We will ignite a movement of 10 million strong or more leading to ‘Uncle Sam Marries “Anti” GMO.’ “Grow a Healthier Pizza” is my contribution toward this victory through blogging, educating and planting strong intentions.

CARAVAN TO THE NATIONAL HEIRLOOM EXPOSITION SEPTEMBER 11,12,13, 2012

I will caravan to the National Heirloom Expo, September 11,12,13 in Santa Rosa, CA. This event falls less than two months before the election and features some of our big anti GMO hitters, including Jeffrey Smith and Vandana Shiva. This Expo is a rally point for winning the campaign to Label GMOs in California.

HAMI HIGH SCHOOL PROJECTS

I am focused on one school, Hamilton High (Hami High) where I want to demonstrate the shifts in the science classroom that I see as possible. I helped inspire the Hami Garden three years ago. I have returned to the classroom a number of times over these years to launch projects that include “Taste Organic!,” Keep the Beet, The Great Hami High GMO Debate of Fall 2012, The Pizza Pig Out of Fall 2012, and “Grow a Healthier Pizza.” My niece Eva Becker called me “Uncle Leslie” the first time I was in the classroom, and this caught on. I am now Uncle Leslie at Hami High to students, faculty, and staff. Amen.

To my left was a nurse practitioner from the UCLA School of Human Nutrition, and to my right, scientists from the Cedars-Sinai introducing Stem Cell Advancements to the kids. In the middle, there I was, with my fresh local organic foods, Chocolate milk and cheese from Horizon Organics, and a grinder having the youth turn whole grain ancient KAMUT® khorasan grains into our Enchanted Garden future.–Leslie

Dear Uncle Leslie,
I really enjoyed your presentation yesterday. It uplifted my spirits and made me feel like I had to do something to make our planet better. Personally, I don’t eat vegetables but everything you said changed my mind about it. I do need to change my eating habits and I do need to grow my own vegetables. You kept the classes’ attention. You were funny, and you kept us interested. You’ll probable be the man that’ll actually get our generation to do their part in helping rebuild our enchanted garden.
Sincerely,
Summer

“We Love Uncle Leslie!”

Leslie and Ms. Washington, Vice Principle Hamilton High School at the Medical Fair, April 25, 2012. In a followup note, to Eva, she wrote, “We love Uncle Leslie!” She and other members were asked about the idea of “Growing a Healthier Pizza.” They liked it.

Chef LaRue Palmer will be Cooking Up some Ideas for the “Growing a Healthier Pizza” Workshop

Chef LaRue Palmer wants to adopt Hami High as part of the Chefs Move into the School Project. I introduced him to the idea of GMO’s and gave him local organic foods for his work. We will continue to work together in a pilot project that involves Chefs Moving into the Schools.

IN SUMMER 2012: ENCHANTED GARDEN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY PROJECTS

This is Arundo Donax, The Giant Reed.

This is Arundo Donax, The Giant Reed. The landfill calls it trash. I call it a crop. Farmers are being paid to grow it in Portland as a coal substitute. The landfill said it could not be chopped. We did it. San Diego’s Fire Prevention department and neighbors feared it would resprout if returned to the canyon. Our pile has not resprouted. A UCSD student will take my blogs and turn them into a thesis project this fall. The Arundo experiments continue…to the left is Andrew, a returning vet. I want to raise funds so he can do his garden work here.

Between taking off on the caravan in September, I have a job on my hands at home. I am in an impasse with one of four neighbors who owns the land where we have our organic garden for 30 years. Can I hold the line on Roundup Herbicide in my own backyard? Can I educate right here in my own neighborhood? Can I shift city policy that sees stands of Arundo Donax as an invasive fire danger, while others around the world find more than 102 uses when this valuable plant is seen as a crop rather than a menace? What about the two returned veterans, graduates of Archi’s Acres, who are having difficult finding work? Can our home provide a place for work? We have to get a plan going for our 1/3 acre that will one day be a park. How can we advance Polyculture and Urban Ag here at home? How do I get to the other side of getting this land purchased and secured for the future, and ground rents, so I am free to do the work outside that calls me? Securing Our Organic Future here at home… The Journey continues.

JOIN THE DIALOGUE ON SCIENCE, ETHICS, AND FOOD ON FACEBOOK Continues

This is a photo of Dr. Robert Farley PhD, the father of Roundup Ready Technology, Leslie, that’s me in the middle, and Tami Craig Schilling, a friend on Facebook, and one of the lead information officers for Monsanto. It is my point of view that the only way we will lessen the tension between GMO lovers and Organic Lovers is to close the gap and enter an honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on Facebook. If Biotech Ag has answers and real science to back up their claims, please show them. If Organic has the answers, show them.

When I met Dr. Fraley I planted seeds with him to lessen the tension between GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers. It is time the GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers Talk. With the Label GMOs agenda on on both sides mind, I am going to ask high school students in one classroom at Hami High to Debate all sides of the question.

The Genius Kids of Biotechnology; Hadn’t we also have Genius Kids with Savvy in Organic Methods?

This photo was taken at BIO, The Biotechnology Industry Organization Conference in San Diego in 2008. These Genius Youth are trained with BIO support to learn the finest of DNA science. At the conference, Margaret Spelling, then Sec of Ed, was a keynote speaker. The room was filled with gifted students and their teachers, all sponsored by BIO funds. I want to see Genius Youth as well trained in Organic growing methods. I want to see debate and youth know all sides. Out of this will come GMO education, and from my point of view, a victory for the California Label GMOs Ballot Initiative.

The outcome I am after: More people educated about GMOs.

Wall Street Journal Says Label GMO is from People who are opposed to GMOs

This article is incorrect. The Lable GMOs is a consumer awareness action. It is not about being foes to GMOs. It is about letting people know that they are eating GMOs so they can make their own choice. This is about the beginning of education….and then let each individual decide what they want to do with in freedom with their lives, not with a choice that has been made for them.
