My first pair of Arundo Donax (Giant Reed) Chop Sticks, December 11, 2011 at the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market. There is currently an extreme shortage of chopsticks in China and millions are now being exported, using up US Trees. I may be the first to have discovered that Arundo Donax, considered an invasive and expensive plant pest, may be a Godsent yet to be discovered. A plant highly regarded by indigenous cultures for more than 3000 years, the leaves of Arundo may have made the basket that saved the baby Moses. It is the source of Pan’s flute, and was used to wrap pharohs in their tomb. The Buddha considered it sacred. The Nature American made flutes out of it. It is a likely candidate as a biofuel source, and it removes pollutants from soil, but we as Americans, in our human race, cannot figure out yet what to do with this burdensome plant that costs millions to eradicate each year. Out of step with nature, we do not know what to do with Arundo Donax and see it as a fire hazard. The majority of our crop here on the rim of the Arosa Canyon near San Diego State University (SDSU) is scheduled to be cut and Roundup Herbicided December 15, 2011 at great cost, and under pressure from the San Diego Fire Prevention Bureau. Four tons of the prized reed, brought here in the 1700′s for erosion control and as a building material, were brought to the San Diego Landfill December 3 and dumped as trash. In our own experiments at home, we discovered it could be mulched and returned to the ground; alas, neighbors are fearful that it might resprout, although science says resprouting mulch of Arundo is rare. One of the most pressing problems facing America right now is our lack of topsoil. Arundo will compost and make more topsoil we aim to prove with your financial support Use the top donation Paypal to help Secure our Organic Future here at home as a demonstration site for Arundo education. Millions of dollars can be saved park and rec departments if we find other approaches to this plant now called the Devil Weed.

Together, we can inspire a campaign to Outlaw Roundup Herbicide.

PLANT MATERIAL

HISTORIC BACKROUND

I once had a lover who I enjoyed very much. Although our affair was short lived, the time between Chanukah to the New Year, memories remain through the years. One thing, she said, sticks in my mind. “When you go to bed with Leslie, there are always plant materials left behind,” she said.

Times shift. Lovers leave. Plant materials stay forever. Plants rule supreme on planet earth as part of Nature’s Original Technology. Unless we respect our plants, we will have havoc in our lives. Now is the time for each of us to become an Organic Uprising, each of us Standing up for Nature’s Original Technology. Unless we do this, 2012 shall be the year we are left behind as the Earth herself has ascended. Will you be left behind? It is possible to continue to live on an Earth that has ascended, if we do not, each of us, make the Shift being asked?

IS THE TRIBE OF THE ARUNDO CALLING YOU,Too?

My latest love affair is with the Tribe of the Arundo, my favorite plant material heading into 2012. Arundo Donax called Giant Reed, is a grass-like cane, that looks like bamboo to most of us. It is considered by the San Diego Fire Prevention Bureau and most Park and Rec departments a noxious invasive plant pest, that has consumed millions of dollars as we attempt to conquer this–one of the fastest growing plants in the world; yet for me, I find increasingly an amazing gift in Arundo. She reaches out to us today, offering us a path back to hear and feel the World Beat Center of our Nature.

Arundo Donax: Giant Reed, Teach me! Reveal to me how you can grow 20 feet or more. Allow me to help redeem you, oh plant. Though some call you a noxious weed, you are for me among one of heaven’s most prized grasses. You have found a place in my heart. And to you, dear reader, I ask, Is your heart open to the Tribe of the Arundo?
