Why Frey Wine Belongs on the Top Shelf where Great Wines are Sold!
UPDATE OCTOBER 28, 2014
When last I saw Katrina and Jonathan Frey they were on their way to the airport to leave for Germany to receive a Silver Medal for service to humanity. The award was from IFOAM, the International Federation of Agricultural Movements. As a proponent of Conscious Commerce, the idea that with each dollar we spend in the marketplace we can uplift humanity, I encourage spending your wine budget for Frey Wines. Included in the varieties they produce are Biodynamic as well as organic wines. Their good adds up to helping numbers of projects and people sustain their creative efforts. I want to thank Katrina, Jonathan and the Frey Family for helping to make my work in the world possible.–Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener.
NOMINATING THE FREY FAMILY & THEIR VINEYARD FOR THE IFOAM ONE WORLD AWARD 2014
This Plant Your Dream Blog was originally written to nominate the Frey Family for the One World Award presented by IFOAM. It was updated on September 17, 2014, the day that Katrina and her husband Jonathan left for Germany to receive a Silver Medal. They are the first American project to be awarded the Honor.
This is Daniel Frey, son of Luke and Emily Frey. In my Fall visit to more than 1,000 acre oasis dedicated to preserving the highest ideals of nature through applying organic and biodynamic principles, I saw in the presence of Daniel a hope for the future. He showed me forest with fruit trees in the ground still coming into maturity. I saw through his eyes a Food Forest, and a vision for a school where youth of his generation would come to be schooled in the ways of nature. I went into his home, an old structure where he dad once lived. I saw an inventive Rocket Stove that warmed the room and the seat for the kitchen table. I saw his love for his son, and through his love, hope for our future.
The Frey Family and how they caretake their land is a tribute to a Way of Life Preserved.–Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener, Plant Your Dream Blog

MY NOMINATION FOR THE ONE WORLD AWARD FROM THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE MOVEMENTS 2014
It is an honor to nominate the Frey Winery for the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) One World Award 2014. In my journeys, as a teacher at the National Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, California for the last two years, a highlight of my trip north from San Diego, has been visiting the Frey Winery Property in Redwood Valley, CA. Located on more than 1000 acres, this Frey Family inspires me with their care and concern for nature and organic methods that go to the highest order through their application of Biodynamic farming Principles.
My main contact with the family is through a personal relationship with a new of the remarkable family that live together on various parcels of the land. The Winery itself is the oldest certified in the United States, and members of the family are esteemed teachers and practitioners of Doctors of the Soil.
I first met Tamara Frey and her sister in Law, Katrina, in visits to Rancho La Puerta, the Number one destination Spa in the world. Tamara is a chef who shares her love of food through catering. She was instrumental in the creation of the remarkable Kitchen Garden at Rancho Tres Estrellas. I met Katrina, while she came to serve her wine to the spa that is highly esteemed by US and International Spa goers.
LUKE FREY–A LOVER OF THE HIGHEST PRINCIPLES OF FARMING AND GARDENING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
Biodynamic Wine Production has been forwarded through the efforts of Luke Frey who first introduced these methods to the family wine growing practices. Jonathan Frey, husband of Katrina, has been instrumental in teaching organic Wine growing methods. Both Luke, Jonathan, and Katrina have been teachers at the National Heirloom Expo, the once a year event in Santa Rosa each fall (September 10-11-12, 2014.
My experience receiving the hospitality and kindness from members of these family makes me want to see them receive the auspicious IFOAM One World Award. They have contributed through their volunteer efforts in GMO Education, and organic methods. I have personally felt the kindness and generosity of this family that makes my yearly visit to the Winery a highlight of the year.
It is an honor to nominate the Frey Family and their Winery for the 2014 Award.

Luke Frey gathers the finest quality milk that will be turned into therapeutic quality cheeses enriched with fresh herbs.
Christian Saretzki, (L) from Columbia with Luke Frey. In his ten months he learned make therapeutic quality cheeses from fresh aged milk. In his time among the Frey’s, he never saw a cow that was in need of antibiotics or had health problems. Brushing the cow while it was being milked was a healing for me.
